RE: purchasing a 98 holiday rambler

We had a 99 HR Vacationer and traded it on our present rig in 2005. So, all I'll say is if what you are looking at is a 98 Vacationer on the Ford F53 chassis, at $35,000 it is about $15,000 overpriced. You shouldn't pay more than $20,000 even if it is in mint condition as ours was when we traded it.

RE: Disconnect toad from Class A's on Marine Hwy??

I agree with Rocky2 above. Save money by disconnecting. That's what we did when we came back via ferry. Even better reason for disconnecting is that it's easier to maneuver on the car deck when you don't have to worry about the toad. Also the parking crews prefer that you disconnect, at least that's what they told me.

RE: 1995 Holiday rambler vacationer

It flashes your high beam headlings like after a 18 wheeler passes you and you want to let him know that it is safe for him to pull back in front of you.

RE: Texas info please

If you are looking for lake property in Texas do a Google search for Lake Palestine Texas. Beautiful lake in East Texas with its mild winters and relatively low prices and low taxes. Close to Dallas, Shreveport, and only four hours from Houston. Nevertheless, you,ll find places like Tyler still have a small town feel.

RE: Best (Most scenic) Dry camp in AK ????

Willawaw (n) is nice but the Quartz Creek CG, also Forest Service, is nicer with better views in my opinion. And we've stayed at Willawaw. Quartz Creek has sites overlooking Kenai Lake which is the headwater for the Kenai River. It's just a few miles down the Sterling Highway after you make the turn to head to Homer.
Everyone is entitled to their opinion. Do any of you Alaska natives (or current residents) have an opinion.
Willawaw and Quartz Creek both have sites that will handle a 40' Class A with toad.

Good Sam Club ERS Auto Renewal w/o Noticel!!!

My Good Sam Club Emergency Road Service membership was automatically renewed and my bank account/debit card was charged for the renewal without any specific notice to me that this was to occur. I did not intend to renew as we are seriously considering selling the MH and we have other road service on our two autos.
I'm sure there is something in their literature somewhere that says they will do this but I don't recall seeing such. I'm now trying to get them to credit the $99.95 for the renewal back to my account. So far I'm having no luck. You know how it is. It's always easier for someone to take something away than it is for you to get it back.
So, just a warning to those of you who think that you can just let your Good Sam Club ERS expire. Not the case!!! They'll auto renew it and make you have to try to get the money back.
Wish me luck.

RE: Traveling to Black Hills and Yellowstone...need advice

For those who've said there are no steep grades in the Black Hills, I beg to differ. Going south from Deadwood on US 385 you'll encounter a 7%-8% grade for a couple of miles. In fact, there is a truck escape ramp going north into Deadwood on the northbound side.
We spent the summer in the area so I can tell you there have been MH's that wished they did not have to pull the grade.

RE: Rough day at the dealership trying to buy a toad!

I don't think you are to the point where you should be looking for a toad. First, you need to do your research and decide on a few models that you "know" can be toad. This site is as good a place as any to do this.
Then you need to visit a few dealers of the makes you know can be toad just to drive them to see if they fit you needs. Next, go the web site of a dealer that carries what you want and get their internet sales staff to give you their best price. Do this for two or three other dealer of that make and work out a deal from home with the dealer that will give you the best price. You never have to even have contact with a "live" salesman at the dealer if you take this approach.
Make a trip to the dealer to sign papers and pick up your vehicle and you are ready to go.
Take my word, this works. You can buy a vehicle at a good price with no hassle and no stress.

RE: verizon phone coverage and cost in Alaska

When we made our last trip to Ak in 2005 we switched to Verizon's North American Plan which gave us unlimited use in Canada and Alaska as long as we stayed within our plan's number of minutes. Using the phone in Canada and Ak was no different than using it here in East Texas.
Go to a local Verizon store and talk to them about what you need to do before you leave on your trip.

RE: Denali NP bus- shuttle or tour dif?

Here's the link to the Park Service web site that explains the two types of transportation within the park. Park Transportation
We've taken the shuttle buses on our two visits to Denali. They are much cheaper and you go the same places and receive substantially the same narrative. Both stop when game is sighted and both use the same type buses. In fact, we have a friend who drives one of the tour buses in the summer. The way she got the job was because of her experience driving one of the shuttle buses. She says don't waste your money by taking a tour when you can see the same sights and game on a shuttle bus.

RE: Signpost Forest question

Check at the information office and they will tell you where the recent posts have been installed. Then all you need are your sigh and screws, etc. They will help you with these if you don't have your own. At least that is what we did in 2005 on our last trip.

RE: Unknown CRV accessory

Does your CRV presently have remote keyless entry? If it does this is an aftermarket programming module for the system. If you lose the keypad that you have (if you have one) this is what you use to program the new transmitter (keypad) to the receiver in the car.

Fuel Prices!!

For what it's worth, I just checked to see the current fuel prices on a couple of spots on the Alaska Hiway in Canada.
Current price for a U.S. gallon of regular unleaded in Fort St. John is $4.83 per gallon. A few cents cheaper in Whitehorse, Yukon.Fort St. John

Pleased with PPL

I just got a call from PPL Consignments in Houston. They have a buyer for our MH and will be closing in the next three days. Since we only left or rig with them three weeks ago today I must say I am nothing but pleased. They are a very professional bunch to work with all the way from their method of determining a listing price to how they handle the actual sale itself. So, if you are anywhere where you can get to Houston and want to sell your rig and don't want to deal with the sale yourself, then consider letting PPL handle the transaction for you.

RE: RV Barbeque Propane Adapters?

Almost any local propane dealer should have the hose that connects from a propane tank to a device that was designed to accept the disposable bottles. That is where I got mine.

RE: 05 winnebago sightseer

Price seems a little high unless it is in like new condition. On the other hand that few miles means it has sat a lot.
PPL Consignment has an 03 Brave for 59,900 which should mean it can be bought for about 55K. NADA price does not mean a lot since it is based on formula from original cost whereas PPL bases their prices on historical sales.
